‘Tis the season to be careful II

Football playoffs, March Madness, office parties are a bad mix for the CEO.Never take part in any office party games. If you win, the employees will resent you; if you lose they will make fun of you. Be an enthusiastic observer instead.

Never gamble with your employees. You used to play Liar’s Poker with the guys on the trading floor; now forget it.Should you win they’ll only feel cheated. There will always be one wise guy who wants to take the boss on; don’t take the bait. Tell him you can’t afford it. Listen to the crowd hoot, admiring how cool you are under pressure.

If you are cajoled into entering the office sports betting pool and happen to win, make a public display of buying beers for everyone after work. Same at an office golf outing; you pay at the 19th hole.

And remember any award you win at an outing where you are representing your company belongs to the firm. Put it in a trophy case in the reception area. Your spouse doesn’t want it at home anyway.
