‘Tis the season to be careful

Office parties during holidays are fraught with peril for the CEO.

Social behavior can be awkward for the CEO at company parties. For you it is not a party, it is an occasion  to shake hands with the staff you rarely see during the work week and thank them for a great job.

Remember you are invited to employee get-togethers because of your title, not because you are the life of the party. The employees  feel compelled to invite you. Face it-you the boss- are a damper on a good time, and do you really want watch your IT guy do the Limbo with a drink in each hand?

Your team will stay buttoned up until you leave. If you feel compelled to give a speech at a company party, keep it short–real short. You’re competing with the bartender. Your best bet at any office party is to have one drink and slip out the door. You’ll notice no one will beg you to stay.
