Think Big, Avoid Folly
Being named CEO is exhilarating. Growing into a CEO is challenging. Becoming a successful CEO is daunting.
These blogs are a checklist, a memory jogger, a companion, a navigation chart outlining the shoals as you pilot your new command. I write it so you can refer to it and browse through from time to time to check your heading.
As long as you hold the title of CEO, you will be responsible for people, internal and external, revenues, expenses, governance, regulations and public image.
All that before you start thinking about technology, cybersecurity, innovation, pricing and competition. How you handle these challenges will determine your personal future.
My comments will not help you discover your inner self, but it will help you achieve success as a CEO, whether at a large firm, a start-up, a non-profit, even at home. The world is rooting for you, you are the engineer for economic growth, a talent in short supply.
Naturally, there may be exceptions to my observations, but there are no exceptions to how great it feels to be an effective CEO. Trust me.
